What documents are required for legalization in transport between Bulgaria and Spain

Thursday, 22.01.2026 г. by Пламена Попова

International transport between Bulgaria and Spain offers tremendous opportunities—whether for exporting goods, transporting passengers, or moving special cargo such as food, medicines, and machinery. But behind every successful delivery stands not only good logistics, but also properly prepared documents.

Legalization of transport documents is a mandatory step that ensures they will be recognized by both Bulgarian and Spanish institutions. A missing stamp or an error in this preparation can lead to serious consequences—delays at the border, fines, blocked goods, or even the loss of valuable business partnerships.

On the bright side: Bulgaria and Spain are both parties to the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention, which makes the legalization process much simpler. In most cases, it is sufficient for documents to bear an apostille and be accompanied by an official translation into Spanish.

In the sections below, we will look at:

  • what documents are required depending on the type of transport;
  • the steps for proper legalization;
  • the most common mistakes and how to avoid them;
  • a practical checklist to help you stay prepared.

How are documents legalized and recognized between Bulgaria and Romania

Wednesday, 21.01.2026 г. by Пламена Попова

The close economic and cultural ties between Bulgaria and Romania create many situations where official documents must be recognized by institutions in the neighboring country. This applies both to individuals studying, working, or marrying abroad, and to companies engaged in cross-border trade and cooperation.

For documents to have legal validity outside the country of issue, they must go through a legalization and recognition procedure. This ensures that the document is authentic and can be accepted without doubt by administrations, universities, employers, or courts in the other country.

The good news is that both Bulgaria and Romania are parties to the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention, which greatly simplifies the process. In most cases, it is enough for the document to receive an apostille in the country of issue and then be translated by a sworn translator.

In this article, we will examine:

  • what document legalization means and how it works between Bulgaria and Romania;
  • which documents most often require legalization and recognition;
  • the procedures from Bulgaria to Romania and vice versa;
  • practical tips and common mistakes to avoid.

The goal is to provide practical and reliable information that will help you prepare your documents correctly and on time, whether for personal, educational, or business purposes. (more…)

What are the specific steps and requirements for legalising Bulgarian documents for use in France

Monday, 19.01.2026 г. by Пламена Попова

Legalisation is a crucial procedure for anyone who wants their documents to be officially recognised in a foreign country. It ensures that the document is authentic and that the signatures and stamps it bears are legitimate. In Bulgaria, this process typically involves notarisation of the document and, depending on the destination country, the application of an apostille (for countries party to the Hague Convention) or consular legalisation (for countries outside the convention). The purpose is to ensure that the document is officially recognised and can be used for legal, administrative, or educational purposes abroad.

This article provides a detailed guide on which documents require legalisation, the specific requirements of French authorities, and how to navigate the entire process smoothly and efficiently. (more…)

What documents are required for the legalization of business transactions in Portugal

Friday, 02.01.2026 г. by Пламена Попова

Bulgaria and Portugal are both parties to the 1961 Hague Convention abolishing the requirement of consular legalisation. Accordingly, Bulgarian public documents bearing an apostille affixed in Bulgaria are recognised in Portugal without any further consular authentication, and vice versa. The apostille certifies the authenticity of the signature, the capacity in which the signatory has acted and the seal or stamp – but not the content of the document. In Portugal, apostilles are issued by the Public Prosecutor’s Office (Procuradoria-Geral da República) through a specialised service, with publicly announced service addresses.

Official translation is a separate step. In order to be valid before Portuguese registries and authorities, the translation must be certified in Portugal by a notary, solicitor/solicitador, registry official (IRN) or recognised chamber of commerce and industry; if done by a “qualified translator,” their signature is certified before one of these authorities. This follows IRN practice and regulations (e.g., Decree-Law No. 237/2001). (more…)
