On the 3rd of September 2019, a client contacted us via email requesting a translation of documents for a lawsuit from Bulgarian into Spanish. The client emphasized that he needed the translation to include all the signatures and stamps of the original documents, as well as a stamp from our agency. In other words, the request was for a certified translation, which includes translation and editing by two linguists, certification by a sworn translator with a signature and stamp.
What was unusual about this project was the client’s wish to send us the documents one (or a few) at a time and to receive each translated document as soon as possible. This approach hindered the provision of a preliminary estimate of the total amount. As a consequence, the client received separate quotes for each batch of documents for translation. The client would confirm our price estimate and then we would proceed with the translation. Each batch of documents was delivered as soon as it was completed.
After the last batch was delivered within the agreed deadline, the client sent new extra batches. A new deadline was set for each extra batch.
Workflow
The client sent out a total of 9 batches of documents for translation. Therefore the project had to be divided into 9 subprojects, each of which underwent all stages of our workflow. The final volume amounted to 76 pages, of which: standard – 19 pages, low specialised – 25 pages, and highly specialised – 32 pages. All pages were translated within 9 business days by a single team of one translator and one editor.
Despite the unusual circumstance of receiving the files in batches, the work process went smoothly and the project was completed successfully, thanks to the well-established and constantly improving work practices that we at Oltrans have been following since 2006.
